UC Davis Campus Research Core Facilities
Pilot and Feasibility Projects

For UC Davis investigators, starting March 06, 2018 a new program has been issued for awards to pilot and feasibility projects.
Award preference will be given to projects that will generate long-term use, preliminary data for a new extramural grant or manuscript submissions.
Funding from this program will be granted to Academic Senate and Academic Federation members with PI status with the following constraints:

  • (1) Who have not used the requested facility in the past 2 years, or
  • (2) Investigators who will explore the utilization of equipment and services offered by the facility that they have not used before
  • These funds must be utilized within 12 months.

Specifically, UC Davis funds projects using underutilized services in the following areas:

(a) Stable isotope tracer studies (applications for this area must be directed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., not to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
(b) Absolute quantification of amino acids in plasma using the EasyFaast kit
(c) Identification of unknown compounds on studies for which the metabolomics core has previously provided profiling data.
(d) Short chain fatty acids in fecal, cecal or intestinal matters.
(e) regular fee-based services as they are enrolled in the CRCF program

The applicant must include (at a minimum) the following information from the core facilty:

1.       Clearly identify enrolled service (non-enrolled services will no longer be followed up on by RCFP)

2.       Number of samples/animals/hours/etc. included in estimate

3.       Reason why the amount of samples/animals/hours/etc. is necessary

4.       Total estimated dollar value for each service included

5.       Signature and Print Name of CRCF Director or Staff

6.       (If applicable) Justification to fund existing user for newly developed service (details of service - when developed, new capability, etc.)

UC Davis Genome Center 
Pilot and Feasibility Projects

The Genome Center is soliciting applications for up to five small metabolomic pilot grants per year for up to $2,000 per project. Such grants are available for Principal Investigators located at UC Davis, but outside regional scientists are not eligible. The intent of such startup grants is to obtain data for NIH grant submissions. Project submissions can be sent any time to This email address is being protected from spambots. Leveraging with other funding mechanisms, including other Genome Center core pilot grants, is most welcome.
